Mentor Award

Four years ago this August, I graduated from UVU's Paramedic program. Since that time there's been 7 classes that have gone throughthe same program, and each student in the class gets a chance to come do clinicals in the ER that I work at, and if I'm there when they come in then I usually get the chance to mentor and work with them, as do all of my co-workers.  Well this year they decided to nominate mentors from different departments and hospitals and they asked us to come to their graduation to recieve an award for being good mentors to them, and I just so happened to be the one they picked from Utah Valley Emergency Room.  Ha ha I thought it was kinda funny when they called me and told me, I still think it's mostly just because I was fat and lazy and let them do all my IV's for me :)  They had about 8 of us they chose from various departments and hospitals, and yes, I'm totally looking at Buck in the pic below for the picture :) ha ha

Anyways I'm not gonna lie, I felt pretty cool, and I the reason why I thought this was so cool was because like I said, 4 years ago I was in their shoes, and clincals, were hard.  An average of 120 hours per week going from different fire departmens and different areas of different hospitals day after day for 3 months straight, and there were some places where I was treated like just another student. But I also had some amazing mentors, that took the time to teach me things that I incorperated and still use in my own paramedic practice to this day, and I remember the faces and names of those people very well.  So if I was able to do this for a student or two, help them and teach them something that they'll use forever doing the same profession that I love doing, I'll be pretty stoked. :)

Captain Allred asked me to come in my paramedic PG uniform, but was then like, "Oh wait, nevermind you can just wear something nice." But I found my shirt and totally squeezed into it, but my duty pants or my belt would not fit.  I tried to wear a skirt with it, but it wouldn't zip up all the way.  So I was semi-formal with my uniform shirt, jeans, and I tried to dress it up a little with some heels. Ha ha ha

And here's my award! You can't see the fine print very well but it says, "Annalee is pretty Awesome."    :)
