Potty Trained!

Sooo, the biggest thing that has happened around here as of late, is this little crazy is potty trained! Yay for only having to by one set of diapers.  It was actually really fun training him.  He did super well too, with only one obstacle really.  First, we bought him a little toilet seat that sits on the big toilet.  Then, we bought him some big boy underwear, which was a lot of fun seeing him dress himself :)  Once again, he was totally ready for this big step.  The first day, he had 0 accidents. Went to bed like a champ, and woke up dry the next morning! I couldn't believe it, I totally expected an accident, and I was prepared for it.  I just did big boy underwear, no pull-ups or anything, but I had him sleep on towels and everything.  Not getting my hopes up and just considering myself lucky, we started with day 2. (I did a 3 day potty-training program, worked like charm) So the next 2 days and nights were accident free as well.  I couldn't believe my luck, and kept waiting for the catch.  Well, it came on day 4.  I noticed he hadn't gone poop the whole time during training, so I tried to put him on the toilet to poop, and he freaked out.  He was scared to death to poop in the toilet, and had held it in for 4 days.  That night, he began to cry saying his tummy hurt, and that he needed to poop, and asked us to put his diaper back on him.  We kept putting him on the toilet to let him poop and he would just cry and fight us, yelling 'no' over and over.  I knew that if I could just get him to poop once in the toilet, he would get over his fear, and we would be good to go.  So, I helped him a little, and gave him a glycerin suppository.  All that was left to do was wait.

Finally, to get him to calm down, I grabbed the iPad and turned on all the potty videos I could find on you tube, like Mickey, Sesame Street, Bear in the Big Blue House, etc.  It helped him relax, and sure enough, boom! It came out of him like poopy dynamite explosives.  Once he felt better, I gave him a prize for pooping, and just like I thought, he overcame his fear, and hasn't been scared to poop in the potty since.  In fact, this kid has become obsessed with going in the big boy potty. He can do it all by himself, and he probably goes 5 or 6 times an hour.  Not because he has to, but because he thinks it's so great.  Sometimes nothing even comes out, but he loves going through the motions.

He got his big prize, and we celebrated and did a victory dance.  He's yelling right here, "I'm a Big Boy now!"  Since then, we've had just a few accidents at night, usually when he drinks too much before bed, or just is in too deep of a sleep.  But he'll usually wake up in the middle of the night and run upstairs, go pee all by himself, and then go right back down to his bed and goes back to sleep.  He's awesome.

We give being potty trained 2 thumbs way up
