Gimpy Bum

Last weekend Buck went up Fairview Canyon to chop up some dead fallen trees for winter this year (we had a permit) and Keg went with.  He was so excited to spend the day out with the guys and then the poor little guy fell out of the back of the truck while they were driving and broke his femur bone.  The picture below is of his xray but it's from my cell phone so it's kinda blurry.
At first we weren't gonna do anything because it happened on a Saturday and you had to have an appointment to get in to see most vets and the one we usually go to couldn't see us.  We were just gonna wait till monday when we could get an appointment. He was being such a trooper. He didn't whine, moan, groan, whimper, or anything. He just let his leg dangle and wouldn't put any weight on it. It was swollen huge though, and almost spongy feeling, which made me worry he was bleeding inside which was causing the ridiculous amount of swelling. (Which is exactly what had happened)  So we asked around and finally were able to get into Banfield Pet Hospital located in Petsmart (thanks to Aubrey R.). They saw him as a "drop off" patient and took some xrays showing the pic you see above and he referred us to another vet who could perform the surgery. I was devastated and cried when I told Buck what was wrong with him because Buck is such a logical person and puts his own wants and desires after reason and reality. So I knew he would say to put him down, instead of spend the money on surgery for a dog. But I just couldn't put Buck through it. He's so attached to Keg, and Keg is only 7 months old.  If he was an older dog then we probably would've gone a different route.
Needless to say, and to some people's disbelief and different opinions, we chose to have the surgery done.  It was a hard decision that we both made together, and I know that Buck is relieved and it was more than worth it and I'm so glad we did it.

He's recovering well, in fact we have a hard time keeping him down and staying off of his leg.  He's such a strong dog and never shows any signs of pain.  Even right after he broke it and couldn't walk on it he still did whatever he could to be next to Buck.

Even though this little guy can be a total terror puppy nightmare sometimes, he's a really good dog and has his cute and sweet moments.
And Buck is happy, and that is what's most important. :)
