And it's here...

Saturday was the opening of the Bow Hunt! This year was a much better hunting season for me, because I got to tag along. Although I do have mixed feelings about it. Hunting is hard. HARD. Not that I didn't know this already, but I really did not know this. We couldn't have a camp fire because then we would all smell like smoke. So all of my dinner plans were gone, i.e. hobo dinners, roasting hot dogs, roasting marshmellows, cooking everything in the fire and dutch ovens, all gone. Instead we had a little propane stove, which is awesome BTW. We had velveeta shells and cheese, and we still had hot dogs, we just boiled them. The first night, the wind blew so badly that the tent hit Buck in the head a few times, but it wasn't really that cold surprisingly. The first morning, we woke up at 0500, and it was FREEZING. We put all our camo gear on, and set off down the Mountain of Death.
Come to find out, I'm a very loud and klutzy person, I found this out as Buck glided down the mountainside with out breaking a single twig, stick, or brushing any bushes. Apparently you go around the bushes, not through them (which I thought I was going around them) and I found every stick there ever was.
Once we got to our perch, we perched and sat. And sat. And waited. And sat. I was freezing. I ended up in the fetal postision with my face in my arms. And every time we moved to a new spot to sit and wait, I totally fell asleep. Aren't I the best hunting partner ever?
So after getting skunked all morning, we decided to hike all the way back up the face of the mountain, which is the steepest mountain in the world, hence the name Mountain of Death. Two words: Ischemic attack. I totally had an ischemic attack of all my vital organs. (Significan lack of oxygen) It took us an hour. Poor Buck then had to wait for me. Once back at camp and after a few hours of recovery, we had a good dinner and took a ride in Kyle's truck. That night the wind didn't blow hardly at all, but it was so much colder than the first night. The next morning we did some road hunting (don't judge us, you didn't have to hike up Death Mountain) and Buck was about 75 yards away from getting him a sweet Buck. I wanted him to get something so bad. But we're going back out this weekend so cross your fingers :) We need meat in our deep freezer for the winter.

My twin brothers and our good friend Kyle went with us this weekend
Ok this shot above, you might be thinking that he missed horribly, but look at the right upper hand corner circle...bullseye. Buck shot it

Poor guys, the only thing they hit all weekend was the target

Kyle, freezing :)

It was so cold! The 2nd morning when we got in Kyle's truck his mirror thermometer said 37 degrees. Yowza!

Driving away from the sunset
It was so beautiful up there. We were litterally on top of the world.

I'm impressed Annalee, I don't even get invited to go hunting. Well, I get invited to sit at the camp while Curtis hunts. I learned my lesson about hunting a few years ago. We have a great hunting arrangement worked out now. Curtis goes hunting and he gives me money to spend the day shopping. But, I did draw out for my first hunt ever this year to hunt deer with a rifle so we will see how that goes but, Curtis has already imformed me that I am not invited to go opening morning. I don't know what it is about guys and opening morning, I don't think that Curtis has ever shot anything on opening morning but, I guess that it is like a holiday that they get to look forward to all year. Oh our silly husbands!

Ha ha, and to think Kyle wanted me and Bailey to go. I love that you were clutsy. I have been hunting with Kyle before and its NO FUN!! You have to hike the worst mountains possible and the worst thing about it is that you can't even talk!! I had to keep silent the whole time and not even make silly jokes or sing camp songs while hiking. BORING! Well thanks for feeding my boy and bringing the girl power along with ya, you look cute! Secretly, Kyle was all for that road hunting too!! haha. Shhh

Sometimes I'm glad Jason isn't a hunter :)

Also, I kind of hate you that you are camping and wearing a camo bandana and still look darling.

Here is what you do . . . Say "Bye Honey, have fun hunting, bring back lots of bacon, I'll sure miss you!" THEN you invite all the wives and girlfriends of the other crazys that like to hike death mountains and freeze their keesters off and watch chick flicks, and do glitter toes and stay warm, then when the men get back you swoon over their prizes, see it is the perfect arrangement!
