So on the 15th of last month, I was in a car accident. Luckily, no one was hurt, and my boys weren't with me which I'm so grateful for because they would have been hit. I was on my way to my mandatory school orientation (which is why my boys weren't with me) and my neighbor who lives just around the corner from me, was backing out of his driveway. He has a long driveway and had a solid fence that he was driving right next to as he backed out, and he had some time to gain some speed since his driveway was so long. As I was driving, he came out into the road and backed into my driver's side rear door/wheel, and hit me hard enough that it pushed me into a tree on the other side. So my passenger rear side hit a tree, and it munched my whole rear end. It tore my back bumper clean off. He got out and checked to see if I was okay, and thankfully he was okay too. In fact he has an amazing car because it didn't hardly scratch his paint, and he hit me hard. (He didn't mean to of course, he was just in a hurry)
So immediately after I hit the tree, my car went over the top of a boulder, and it pitched my car up just enough to make me think for a split second, that I was going to roll my car. It was amazing how clearly I was able to think in that situation, and the amount of things that went through my head in a second. I remember holding on to the steering wheel, bracing to roll, and thinking two things: the first was, "Hmmm, I have never rolled a car before, this is going to be interesting." and the second was, "Oh I sure hope I don't end up in that house right there." And I remember feeling amazingly calm. And then the car just came to a stop and I didn't roll. Ha ha it was crazy.
Another neighbor heard it and called the police. As soon as I checked to see if the other driver was okay, I remember then panicking, because I was supposed to be at orientation in which they had threatened to drop you from the program if you missed it. So before even calling the police, or Buck, I called my friend whom I'm in the program with and told her what happened, and that I would be late but I would get there as soon as I could.
Here is the side that hit the tree
Here is the left back wheel, where he hit me. You can see how it's bent inward
This is the tree I hit, and the boulder that I went over.
It actually turned out to be a total blessing for us though. A few months ago, Buck and I had talked about selling the car in attempt to help us get out of debt to start nursing school. We had discussed putting the car up for sell, but we didn't know how much we could get out of it. Well, the insurance called it a total loss, and payed us the value of the car. With that pay off, we were not only able to pay off the car loan, but also another loan we had. We received double what we owed on it. Granted, we don't have the luxury of a little car anymore, but we already had two trucks, and one of them has a back to to put the boys' in, so everything worked out okay in the end, if not better.
