So with our new baby we had coming, we didn't have enough room on either level of our house to put the four of us together. So, someone had to go downstairs to the almost finished basement. We opted to put Kallan down there so we could stay upstairs with the new baby. We had some work to do first though, that's for sure. I didn't take any before or durning pictures like I should've because we were in such a hurry to get it done. I'll take some more pictures of the finished product and explain what we did. For now though, here is Kallan's new room! We barely got carpet put in down there 2 days before Jace was born, and I didn't want to overwhelm Kallan, with the new baby coming home and everything, so I just waited about 2 more months until we felt Kallan was ready to move in. And boy was he ready!
We didn't really know what theme to go with for his room, so it's kind of a mixture. He's really into monsters, and trucks right now so I painted these 3 monsters on his wall for him. They're approximately 3 feet tall. I hand painted them, without tracing anything before hand, however I did copy them from a picture so they're not my creation, just my work. He loves them. He talks to them all the time.
Then I made this chalk board for him so he'd have something to color on. Yes, he still takes the chalk to the walls down there, but he stays on the board for the most part. It was really easy to make. We just bought a $4 piece of thin wood from Home Depot in the size you see. Then I painted it with chalkboard paint and put some left over trim from when we trimmed the doorways and windows down there on it and painted it.

But we just made sure he had all 4000 trucks, his stuffed monsters and animals, and his favorite blanket.
We said our prayers...
And climbed into bed. In the above pic here, it looks like he's scared and wants out, but don't worry. We just forgot to hand him one of his trucks and he knew it was missing so he's saying, "twuck!"
We kissed him goodnight, shut off the light and closed the door, (no night light or anything) and I waited outside the door. He called for us calmly a few times, just saying, "Mommy? Daddy?" so I talked to him through the door to reassure him he wasn't alone. Only once he started saying, "Down, down, down," but I just told him to go to sleep and he did! Within 5 minutes he was out. He slept soundlessly the entire night, and even slept in!! He didn't get up until 10 AM. He hasn't done that in months. We made sure to make a huge deal about him making it through the night without a problem!
He even gave his new bed 2 thumbs up! This is him, this morning after we went down and got him. He was as happy as a clam. Makes it nice for Mama :)
Isn't his bed beautiful?? One of Buck's friends that he works with made it by hand for us for some trade work from Buck. I want it for our bed! Kallan loves it, and wont fall out of bed, but can climb in and out of it so he's not trapped.
So last night was Kallan's first night sleeping in his new bed downstairs. He did amazing! He was so ready for this move. We followed routine of bath and story time, put on his pajamas and went downstairs to get ready. I was nervous he would freak out from being in the basement alone.

What a nice transition and an amazing bed! I remember Koya being in the basement at our last house and she did great. I think it is a good age, they are young enough to not know better or be know about getting scared.... seems like the little older they get, the more they imagine and start to think!
He is so cute!
