Ok so my infuriating day...ok it was like 2 weeks ago really but I had another little moment happen that upset me and that reminded me I wanted to post this blog. So school started again right? Buck and I both go to UVU. Well we're too stubborn to go pay the school more money for a dumb parking pass so we usually just ride our bikes or walk really, really far, to get to the school. Well Buck was late one morning and decided he would park at Walmart across the street. I'm sure most of you are thinking, 'um bad idea', and if you are you're right. BAD IDEA! We both walked to my car and went back to pick up his little truck and oh...can't find it anywhere. So after driving the entire lot and getting really frustrated, we call the number for the towing company from the sign on Walmart's front door.
Ok, little side note: A tow-truck driver. Makes pretty good money I'm sure, ($157 per vehicle to get them back, yeah I think they do allright) Anyways, I'm sure they don't deal with happy people very often, if ever. Even though it's our fault for parking in bad places, I'm sure none of us are all excited and giddy when we go to pick up our vehicle and throw $157 out the window, or give it to the towing people, whichever, to get your car out of the yard. It's like working in Lost Luggage at the airport. You're not going to be dealing with happy, cheery people in these jobs.
Anyways, with that said, continuing. So we call the number, taking them 1/2 an hour to even answer their phone. Finally getting ahold of them, a lady answers and to make a long phone call short, she tells us where to go to pick up the truck. Ok so we're totally annoyed but have no one to blame really except ourselves because we're the one's who parked where you're not supposed to. I'm not mad at the driver, just frustrated at the situation and I kept telling myself, 'be nice, it's not his fault, he's just doing his job'. So we arrive at the yard, only to find out that there's no one there. I guess I don't really know how tow companies work, because I thought there was supposed to be someone sitting in a little booth or box or something to let you pay and then open the gate for you. Nope. No one there except for some other people who also parked in Walmart and had their car towed. So we call the lady back and she informs us that the driver is at Walmart picking up another truck and will be there as soon as he's done and he'll let our car out.
1/2 an hour later we're still sitting in the yard waiting, and the only people who've shown up are more illegally parked drivers fetching their vehicle as well. So we call the lady back, again and she says, "I am so sorry, he ran out of gas." Ran out of gas? Wait wait wait, let me get this straight: He's a tow-truck driver. His profession is to drive a tow-truck. Driving requires gasoline. So you're telling me, that the tow-truck driver RAN HIS JOB OUT OF GAS??! That's like the main thing you do as a tow-truck driver is drive and you run out of gas. Ok, so he's human, I understand. But I was furious! We were in the tow yard for 2 hours waiting to get our truck out. After he finally arrived, his card machine decided not to work, they don't accept checks, and he was extremely rude. Even though it was our fault, I wasn't mad at him for towing our truck; I was however, very mad about the fact that they don't have someone at the yard to get your vehicle out, and that he then he runs his job out of gas causing him to make 10 people wait for their cars, (and made Buck late for work) and then he's a jerk to everyone after making them wait for 2 hours. Oh and they don't compensate for time by the way. You pay full price no matter how poorly their business is. My opinion: don't park where you're not supposed to to avoid these situations and Walmart needs to find a new towing company. I wanted to trip him and I hope that driver stubs his toe.

I am so sorry hon...that sucks... but I have been there and done that! So here is a tip... you know the Orem Hampton Inn and Suites right accross the street for UVU? I work there on the weekends as their night auditor as a part time job and I am pretty sure you won't get towed if you park there because
A. I know we don't go through any tow trucking agency.
B. They would never know if your car is a guests car or not
C. Even if we thought it wasn't a guest car we wouldn't chance towing it because is it was we would have to deal with a pissed off guest!
So if you ever run into anything like that again... just park there.
Speaking of which... you should totally come visit me sometime! I work the graveyard shift on Friday and Saturday nights from 11pm to 7am.
Can't waite to see you ;)
That is a bad day. Just wondering, how much is a parking permit. It couldn't be as much as the towing company!!! That really does stink. Atleast you can laugh about it now.
